FAQs

  • Therapy looks different for everyone and in every session!

In our first session, we will discuss what issues bring you into therapy, and I will ask questions to get a better understanding of who you are and what your past experiences have been. We will set specific goals and work towards them each week. For example, we might: discuss a new problem that occurred in the last week, learn and practice a new coping skill, complete an expressive arts activity to explore your self-concept, brainstorm ways to find and build new friendships, or practice a mindfulness technique to help you reduce anxiety.

Most importantly, YOU are in control of your own therapy. You get to choose what and how much you share, and if something isn’t working for you, let me know and we will work together to find another solution.

  • No problem! Therapy is always voluntary, and you can let me know during our initial consultation or at any time during our sessions if you think I’m not the right therapist for you. I would be happy to listen to what you think would work better for you and provide you with referrals to other providers.

  • I offer a limited number of sliding scale (discounted rate) appointments. If you are concerned about the cost of therapy, please reach out and we can discuss your specific situation.

You may also find help from these low or no-cost community resources:

  • You are welcome to email or call me to make your first appointment, or can contact me directly from this site. I offer a free 20-minute phone consultation to discuss your goals, answer your questions, and decide if we are a good fit.

  • Yes. I will send you paperwork to complete before our first session, which includes legal forms like Privacy Practices as well as an intake questionnaire about your background and what brings you into therapy. It is also helpful if you start thinking about what goals you would like to set for yourself (but don’t worry if you’re not sure yet; we can work on this together!).

  • Most often, people come to therapy once a week until they feel like they are doing better and move it to every other week. Some like to then come monthly for a check in. It’s really up to you how often you want to do therapy, but I’d say once a week is a good place to start.

  • Each individual session is 50 minutes long, with the option of extended sessions that are 80 minutes long. Group therapy sessions are 80 minutes long. If you would like to schedule a different session, such as a 30-minute parent consultation, please let me know and we can discuss scheduling and rates.

  • Please call 911 or 988 (Suicide and Crisis Lifeline) in case of an emergency.

  • I do not currently accept insurance, but I am happy to provide a superbill that can be used for out-of-network insurance reimbursement.
